Calling Youth Artists…
Now taking applications (grades 3 - 6)
We’re looking for youth artists who want to take their talents to the next level! In this unique program, participants will be paired with professional artists who will serve as mentors to their students over a series of 4 weeks.
Once an art medium is selected, students will receive in-depth instruction from their mentor artist and then spend time creating their own final art work to display. It is our goal to guide youth participants throughout the entire process from beginning to critiquing, refining, and showcasing their work. This program will culminate with a gallery showing and reception during a downtown First Friday event. Invited guests and community members will have the opportunity to see works from both students and their artist mentors. In addition to gaining knowledge with a specific art medium, youth artists will gain an understanding of what it takes to become a professional artist.
The program will be limited to 12 - 15 participants who much be willing to commit the time and work necessary to create their best art work. There is a $25 materials fee to participate (scholarship support can be provided for those in need of assistance).
The time commitment will be four weekly sessions, held on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 PM beginning in February and culminating with an art show on April 7, during First Fridays.
This program is made possible through an Advancing the Arts Grant from Arts Council of the Valley and is being spearheaded by professional artist and educator Wendy Lam.
