Explore More will be closed temporarily, March 16 through March 30*
Dear Friends,
COVID-19 continues to impact our world, nation, state, and city. Based on recommendations to limit large gatherings and create social distance, the museum will close temporarily, effective March 16, and cancel all scheduled events during this time.
The well-being of our patrons, employees, and volunteers is of the utmost importance to us at Explore More Discovery Museum. While we are confident that the museum continues to maintain a clean and safe environment, we believe it’s in the best interest of the community to take this decisive, preventative action.
In keeping with the local schools, as mandated by Governor Northam, Explore More expects to be closed through March 30. We will make future decisions based on new developments and recommendations from the CDC, the Virginia Department of Health, and our local government. *Schedule is subject to change
Please keep in touch with us on social media (Facebook and Instagram). We’ll use email to share activity ideas and updates to our schedule.
We wish you and your family good health and look forward to seeing you again when we reopen. In the meantime, stay calm, take time to play, and know that your friends from Explore More will continue to be here for you.
Thanks for your support!
P.S. If you are scheduled to take a class, host a birthday party, or visit on a field trip during our closing time frame, we'll be in touch with you individually.
Talking to Your Children About Covid-19
Our children may be hearing far more about the flu and the novel Coronavirus than we realize. With any new situation, they look to the important adults in their lives to feel safe and secure. If you’re looking to channel the calm demeanor of the beloved Mr. Rogers, this PBS article offers some great advice on communicating and keeping your kids healthy.
“Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary.” Fred Rogers
HOW CAN YOU HELP EXplore more?
These are unprecedented times for our community and we’re all being challenged in a variety of ways. As we face the possibility of extended closure while trying to pay our bills and ensure the well-being of our staff, please be patient with us. We’ll be offering refunds for services that we can’t reschedule and extensions on memberships for time closed. Engage with us on social media and let us know how we can serve your family while the museum is closed. If you are able, donations of any size would be appreciated. DONATE HERE
