OUR TOP PRIORiTY:
KEEPING YOU SAFE and Healthy During PLAY
At all times, the safety and well-being of our patrons, employees, and volunteers are of the utmost importance to us at Explore More Discovery Museum. Like you, we have been following the ever-changing impact of the flu and COVID-19 on a national level and throughout the region. As the situation continues to unfold, we wanted to remind our guests of the steps that the Museum is taking to keep you safe.
Try a song to make sure they wash hands thoroughly. Happy Birthday, ABC, Baby Shark!
Explore More is meticulous about cleanliness! All exhibit galleries are cleaned and sanitized throughout the day by museum staff and volunteers using a non-toxic, H2O2 Concentrate (4% Hydrogen Peroxide) product. In addition, the entire museum is professionally cleaned and sanitized every evening. We know that our practices are most effective when we work together, so we are committed to provide our patrons with resources to enhance our collective efforts.
All guests are being asked to visit our hand washing station upon entry and exit.
Hand sanitizer stations are placed throughout the museum.
Signage throughout the museum and in restrooms encourages good hand-washing techniques with the reminder that clean hands are ready for play.
We ask that museum guests keep the following in mind before, during, and after your visit:
If you or your child are ill, please stay home and come back to play when you are feeling better!
Please wash your hands often and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
When coughing and sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or cough and sneeze into your sleeves to prevent the spread of germs.
Developments related to the spread of the Coronavirus are being updated daily. We want to assure our guests that we are closely monitoring information given out by the CDC, the Virginia Department of Health, and our local government. We will make adjustments to operating procedures as needed. In addition, we are well-connected with industry resources provided through the Association of Children’s Museums. We are committed to the health and safety of our guests and staff and will be in touch should additional recommendations impact museum programming.
Talking to Your Children About Covid-19
Our children may be hearing far more about the flu and the novel Coronavirus than we realize. With any new situation, they look to the important adults in their lives to feel safe and secure. If you’re looking to channel the calm demeanor of the beloved Mr. Rogers, this PBS article offers some great advice on communicating and keeping your kids healthy.
“Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting and less scary.” Fred Rogers
