1K Fun Run - 2:00 | 5K - 2:30
Run the Runway 5K is back and ready for takeoff! Lace up your running shoes and join us at Shenandoah Valley Airport in Weyers Cave. The family-friendly Sunday afternoon event begins with a 1K Fun Run for children ages 3 - 12 at 2:00 p.m. and a chip-timed 5K on the taxiway and runway beginning at 2:30 p.m. This unique race opportunity is a perfect fit for runners, walkers and families at all fitness levels. The course is handicap accessible and well-suited for those pushing young children in strollers. This year’s event includes *additional educational activities for a complete afternoon of aviation fun for the whole family!
All proceeds benefit the Explore More Discovery Museum's aviation exhibit where children will learn about the many aspects of aviation including hands-on experience as a pilot, aircraft mechanic, air traffic controller and passenger. By supporting this event through sponsorship or registration, you will assist the museum to fulfill their mission of providing high-quality, experiential learning opportunities for all children!
*EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES START AT NOON!
Explore and pick up your race packets prior to the start of the Kids Fun Run (2:00) and 5K (2:30):
NextGen Aviators will have the mobile flight simulator trailer there to allow participants to try their skills as a pilot, plus various stations with hands-on activities exploring the science and mechanics of flight!
Back by popular demand, the Virginia Department of Aviation will have the ICON A5 on display. If you were here last year, you probably remember this one; it was very popular!
Pick up a passport and to each station. Once completed, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win some awesome prizes!
